Numerical study on flow topology and hemodynamics in tortuous coronary artery with symmetrical and asymmetrical stenosis

Tortuosity in coronary artery has been found to be greatly related the potential sites of stenosis these last years. Many investigations have carried out based on tool Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) mainly focusing influences curved blood flow. Within limited coupling between and tortuosity, considered located at tortuous segment. However, with recent clinical studies, case occurred non-tortuous segment before tortuosities confirmed which not paid enough attention yet. Therefore, present study aims investigate disturbed streamlines hemodynamics spiral considering symmetrical asymmetrical upstream tortuosities. Different severities, pulse rates distances tortuosity as controlling parameters studied. The distribution time averaged wall shear stress (TAWSS) through displayed order determine disease sites. Artery surface TAWSS below critical value quantified well evaluate risks atherosclerosis. results reveal that larger generally goes smaller rate, severity distance both for artery. exceptions were cases 6 mm 50% Moreover, tends suppress atherosclerosis compared tortuosity.
